Keeping GSM-R radios free from public networks interference

 

Unwanted emission from public mobile network systems leaking into the GSM-R system is an issue faced by more and more GSM-R networks. I would like to share with you a possible solution to this issue.

Use of very high gain (23 dBi) very narrow beam (11.5°) X-pole VEGA CC-12 antennas can provide a stronger signal and reduce interference.

Due to its much higher gain than common antennas, the signal is stronger along much longer section of the rail. At the same time it’s very narrow beam both in Azimuth and Elevation acts as a special filter, reducing the strong wideband interferences caused by public mobile radio networks. In many situations, use of this antenna can actually save on the number of base stations needed along a given length of track yet providing a much better QoS and availability.
