How to meet Increased Capacity at Minimum Cost for Extended Range Demand

How to meet Increased Capacity at Minimum Cost for Extended Range Demand

Splitting legacy sector using six very high gain 11° beam VEGA MX achieves both six fold capacity and extended range at minimum cost.

Recently, an operator in a university town in Russia discovered that in order to meet high demand for data service in a particular sector serving a concentration of high data users, he would have to increase both coverage range and capacity six times over.

That sector had to bring wideband connection to a university as well as other installations requiring high capacity and data rate.  His customer service department was dealing with complaints daily from users in the affected sector.

As the project manager had neither the means to build another tower closer to the high-capacity service area and get both the capacity and further coverage area and no other frequency band to lower the load off the existing sector, he chose to adopt a more unconventional solution with a focus on Minimum Cost.

The solution arrived on by the operators RAN P&O experts was to replace the legacy sector panel antenna by six very high gain, very narrow beam VEGA MX antennas replacing the one particular sector. No further additions or changes were needed.

In the accompanying picture, the warmer colors indicate the actual loading of each of the new narrow sectors.
